Apr 22, 2013 11:41 AM in response to lchboskyby a brody,There is no direct replacement. You need to
A: Load 10.6.8 again somewhere and export the file to a delimited text file, or dBase file, and import with Bento or Filemaker Pro, or even a spreadsheet such as Sheets losing any custom made forms along the way.
B. Run 10.6 server in virtualization.
This and more options are discussed on my user tip:

Apr 22, 2013 11:52 AM in response to lchboskyby Wayne Contello,★HelpfulI suggest trying to drop your AppleWorks file onto Numbers to see if it will open. Send me the file and I will confirm it will open for you.

Apr 22, 2013 11:57 AM in response to Wayne Contelloby a brody,As far as I know Numbers will only support the Spreadsheet formatted Appleworks documents. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Wayne's suggestion works, since previously others I think have tried unsuccessfully. Maybe there is a factor of whether or not custom forms had been created.

Apr 22, 2013 12:07 PM in response to a brodyby Wayne Contello,★HelpfulI think you are right. Chris Breen of MacWorld suggests opening the Appleowrks database and setting it so all records are visible and in a table format, then copy the data an paste into a text document which you can then open in Numbers. Since the poster has already converted to 10.8 this is not possible... unless they have a machine that can still run AppleWorks

Apr 22, 2013 12:33 PM in response to a brodyby Csound1,Filemaker claim (on their site) that Bento and Filemaker will open Appleworks databases and spreadsheets. Bento has free trial, it might be worth trying it.
Or ....
The file must have been exported to a .tsv file, if not Bento will not open it, the claim is that Filemaker will, but that is not a cheap item.

So FileMaker cannot import as they are AppleWorks Databases, and so it is for Bento

Apr 23, 2013 9:07 AM in response to Wayne Contelloby fruhulda,Hi!
Now your posting ins in the right forum. There is a huge problem with databases on a Mac. Filemaker is really the only good one as far as I know (might not be much).
You can't just drop the data base into any other database application.
Here is a link to Abandoning AppleWorks. Page 5 is about databases. http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/aw/page5.html
If you don't find the solution good enough consider using appleWorks on an older computer/system or partition your HD or have an extra HD with Snow Leopard and AW.

Apr 23, 2013 10:44 AM in response to lchboskyby lchbosky,Thanks to all for your imput. Wayne did try to open one of my DB files in numbers, but it did't work. I think I am just going to bite the bullet and buy either Bento or FIlemaker and reenter (ugh) my data. I mainly use these data bases to print mailing labels for various organizations/projects. My most "advanced" use is for the DB of my highschool graduating class-and since we graduated over 50 years ago,it is unfortunately getting smaller. Thanks again.

And Paint, and Draw unless you copy the document into a WP document first.
One possibility is running AppleWorks under Snow Leopard or Snow Leopard Server in emulation - MichaelLAX will doubtless post the details of that soon and it might be one way of extracting your data.

Mar 23, 2015 10:25 AM in response to MlchaelLAXby James Mol,Did you have to do anything special to get OSX server to run on Parallels? I thought that you could not install OSX on Parallels.

Mar 23, 2015 12:26 PM in response to James Molby MlchaelLAX,When Snow Leopard Server sold for $499, we used to "shoe horn" Snow Leopard client into Parallels:

Now that Snow Leopard Server sells for the same $20 as Snow Leopard client, it is easier to install, run and maintain Snow Leopard Server in Parallels, and just ignore the Server apps:
