Q: Can't sign in on iMessage and FaceTime after upgrading to ML

After doing a clean install of ML, I can't login anymore to iMessage and FaceTime. I'm correctly login to iTunes, AppStore and on my iPhone iMessage works good.

The error is "Il server ha rilevato un errore durante l'elaborazione della registrazione. Riprova pi tardi"

or in english

"The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."

The problem is in ML because with Snow Leopard I hadn't a single problems. I'm on iMac 21.5'' late 2009.

Thanks

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion

OKAY...Is there a SIMPLE easy way of fixing this for the normal Mac user who doesnt understand a thing about going into codes and files and blank screens??

ALL of this is pretty foreign, I just want to make the iMessage work without a problem as it should-

After doing a lot, I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM of being asked to sign in numerous times without ever getting logged in...Can some one help us users who need things in "laymens terms"???

My password is correct! I've deleted and installed it all over again. I've used icloud.com and me.com NOTHING.

    HI,

The different forms of your Apple ID will be regarded as Different IDs by the iMessages server.

The "Register" an ID you computer has to be able to supply the Serial Number of the Mac as part of the Security Process which ends with a Certificate for validation in the Keychain.

Open the Apple Icon Menu > About this Mac

Where the current Version of the OS is listed click the line twice (it changes to Build Number then Serial Number)

If it is missing you need to have it replaced.

It can be missing if the logic board has been repaired/Refurbished needing it's replacement

An Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider should be the place to contact if it is missing.

    HI,

A "Certificate" to say the app has been Authenticated is placed in the Keychain as part of this Process.

As far as I can tell part of this involves the Serial Number once Messages gets to version 7.0.1 (with the OS X 10.8.2 update).

Open KeyChain Access in the Applications Utilities Folder.

See if you have  an entry under the Passwords for iMessage (your Apple ID)-AuthToken

If you have then Double Click it to bring up the Info panel.

    Check the Access Tab.

In here is it allowing Messages and IMAgent to access it ?  (It may also list IMCore and InternetAccounts)

This could be set to allow Any app or have the "Confirm before allowing Access" option ticked.

If it is not there then open Console and try and login to the iMessages Server again and see if any messages about this turn up in the Console list.

I finally sorted this out by accessing the keychain, deleting any keychain entries referencing iMessage, restarted iMessage and my password was accepted and imesasge logged in.

I knew it had to be something local to my MBP as iMessage works fine on my iMac and iPad, after trying all the suggestions in this thread I finally took a chance based on Ralphs comment about the keychain... thank you!

Further to this, upon closing and restarting iMessage again, I am back to not being able to login...

    HI,

In the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder type ~/Library/Keychains

Once in the keychain folder highlight the login keychain.

Then use CMD and I (Get Info)

In the Info Panel check at the Bottom that you are the Owner and have Read and Write Permissions.

Confirmed that I am and I do...

went through the process again of deleting all keys and killing imgent, restarted iMessages. It seems to allow registration, confirms that I can receive messages at my mobile number and @me @icloud addresses but when you go to send anything asks me to login and then fails.

I also have the same problem with Facetime.

    Hi,

Both FaceTime and Messages with the iMessages account follow similar processes to Register even though it is at two different servers.

Both seem to involve the need to have the Serial Number listed on the computer.

I have read of someone who checked it against other details (sticker on Machine or the box if you still have it) and found it did not match.

I am not sure what else to suggest other than a Restore of the whole OS.

Turns out for me after following the advise of Ralph it did work until I restarted my macbook. I have now permanently fixed it by installing Lion over the top of my existing install, not a fresh install just a re-install... hey presto, Messages and Facetime work and stay working.

    Cheers

I tried EVERYTHING and didn't work, until Apple had iMessage and Facetime issues last 3 weeks with discontinue service. After that I tried to login and all works perfect!:) I can't believe...I think that the problem is on the Apple server side.

    Thanks to everybody
