Sounds like you may need to undo what you did and then try again. Normally moving the entire iTunes folder as a unit will work, provided everything is in the correct layout.
That said, it may be that there is another way to fix things. Select a broken track and press CMD+I to Get Info. Say no when prompted to look for the file, then look at the location given on the summary tab - it will begin file://localhost. Now find out where that same file really is. If you post back the two paths I may be able to suggest the easiest path to a resolution.

Thanks for your reply, my file layout is the same as shown and this library was created as a Itunes library initially. I have a 1TB library so 2 days of transfer so far in options suggested by Apple is making me want to make sure the next one is the right one.
When you say undo what I have done, the initial library is intact and the new drive has been cleared of the ones that didn't work. I will copy whole itunes folder from current external drive to new one and open with Itunes. If this doesn't work watch for a Macbook in your local news.
