Have you done anything to the phone in the last few days before this started, like update software, etc.? Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars and check on the account. Go into the SMTP settings and verify that the user name and password are correct. You may have to delete the account and add it back again if the previous suggestion does not work.

Have tried delete and resetting account but didn't work.
The only change to the phone was a software upgrade.
The message now says that the sender address was rejected by the server.
I have a 2nd email address on the same provider - for work - and this appears to be working OK.They are both SMTP accounts on talktalk.

The errors you describe are indicitive of an account error. Make sure the settings for the SMTP server are the same for both accounts. When you say you deleted and reset the account, are you saying that you recreated the account, adding back as a new account, or did you sync it from your computer via iTunes?
