I think that your contact at Roland got it wrong. Core Audio in Mac OS X replaced OMS in Mac OS 9 and earlier. And OS 9 was put to bed over a decade ago.
Try going into your Utilities folder, and open up Audio/MIDI setup, and see if the UA-25 is available when the device is connected via USB. Normally that's how you would set up a USB interface.
Thanks for the reply Organism, I have used AUdio/MIDI set up since-long ago. The edirol was recognized but not put online, after updating to 10.8.3 I saw it had been put online. But it still didn't function as it should-it would allow sysex to pass thru but no note ons or offs. The main problem is the Akai Breath Controller which the german repairman doesn't know how to repair-he wrote to me that he didn't think `***** bend was off-switchable ',I emailed him the releveant page from the manual he had sent me.
I could not solve this with the info you have so generously provided because I had already found out [as I wrote in my post ] that OMS was dropped long ago. Actually Apples stealing the xmlMusic score format to use with Final Kut pro had shown me that apple isn't interested in this software anymore or they would have put the far better than MIDI files xml format into Logic Pro, I understand omiting it from garageband and possibly Logic Express but moving large film scores betweeen DAWS is a mess without xml,the MIDI standard is so old it isn't really that useful, I can mouse input the whole score quiker than importing it in MIDI and trying to correct all the mistakes.
Thanks very much though for the try!
