deleted = erased = destroyed = gone.
So, unless you backed up the contents prior to the deletion, it is finito. Especially so if it is a text message, a particularly fleeting and volatle form of information.

A few issues there:
- iCloud backup is not automatic by default. Needs to be set up first (Settings/iCloud/Storage&Backup).
- Only happens when "this iPhone is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi" (quote from above screen).
- and, most vexing, as you will see in Settings/iCloud, text messages are not backed up.
In contrast when you back up the phone using iTunes and local storage on the computer, that backup does contain all text messages. There are a number of utilities, free or commercial, that allow you to fish your text messages from those backups.
