Welcome to the Apple Community.

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

Thanks for the help Winston, it has solved the problem. I have been struggling with the instructions on the "change your Apple ID page" for hours and nowhere does it mention having to sign out before changing your ID. Sheilaza

Hello,
When I try to sign out, I have to enter my password and it said me it wrong because it's my old e-mail ID
