Apr 9, 2013 2:39 AM in response to delightnzby delightnz,Deleted iCloud account, then did a re-add (through the iCloud wizard) & for now it's all working again. I think I'll not touch it again until tomorrow & see if it still works then.

Apr 19, 2013 1:26 AM in response to Judyl44by delightnz,Yeah, my icloud email account did the same again this week. I had to set up my work around again (from page 3 of this thread) - going through "other" & entering the mail server info manually.
Frustrating as it seems it's a software issue at Apple's end.

Apr 26, 2013 6:04 PM in response to John 32by Leo0689,Hello there, this may "solve" our problem.
Google Sync is no longer available
To keep using the mail app as we used to, we have got to download Gmail App.

Apr 28, 2013 6:53 PM in response to John 32by Mazfrig,I tried everything else suggested. Nothing worked. Tried my own idea, which was deleting all mail accounts and adding again. This worked for me. Thank God. I was getting very pee'd off with not being able to access my emails. Yay!!

Jun 5, 2013 11:55 AM in response to John 32by Joshua Churchtown,IF YOU ARE USING A MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER FOR MAIL!!!
I was having the same issues. The problem for those using Microsoft Exchange 2010 or 2013 is inheritance. You will have to modify the advanced features of Active Directory.

Jul 5, 2013 8:47 AM in response to John 32by mmhere,I'm having similar problem: The connection to the server failed. I don't use exchange -- on IMAP with two google accounts. Still was able to send and receive email, but every time I pulled down on the left-hand menu (in mail) to activate getting new email, I got the above message.
New iPad I've had for 2 months without any problems before this. Not a problem on my iPod Touch or MacBook. I haven't updated the iOS since I bought the iPad. Have a notification to update to iOS 6.0.3. I get same response when using either wifi or AT&T connection.
Server message went away after I did some of what was suggested earlier in this thread. Didn't have to delete and replace any accounts. Did turn off an old Yahoo address. Don't use CardDAV. I don't use Google Sync or the Gmail app.Unfortunately, now I can't select Airplane Mode. I tap and no response. All other menu items respond per normal. Again turned off and on, then quit settings, still no response. Airplane is in off mode.
New problem? Only happened after dealing with the 'server failed' message.

Jul 5, 2013 10:27 AM in response to mmhereby mmhere,Ooops! Was expecting selection of AirplaneMode would lead to more choices. The on/off switch works fine. My bad.

Aug 29, 2013 11:16 AM in response to John 32by adam203,I just experience the same problem. All of the sudden without making any changes I got the error message on my iPhone5 "Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server failed." This was strange because I was still getting email on my Outlook and on my "webmail" I was still able to get emails.
Basically it was a really simple fix. Instead of calling up a carrier rep and then getting connected with an Apple "expert", deleting the account, resetting network settings, turning off the phone, turning on the phone, etc.... try this:
Delete a bunch of emails from your webmail (the way you access mail from the internet when you are not on your office computer) around the time that your emails stopped coming through to your iPhone. This immediately fixed the push problem for me. There was a message that my phone simply didn't like.

Sep 16, 2013 1:08 AM in response to adam203by mattfromhatfield peverel,This is has become a serious issue for us. We maintain support for a companies email server. Since iOS 6 their iPhones are constantly suffering from this issue.
My observations:
It seems to occur when the mail server is unavailble for any period of time.
It seems that the iPhone caches the fact that it cannot connect and then stop trying.
It often takes several attempts of recreating accounts before the account connects again.
I have used iPhone Configeration Utility to send profiles, but these suffer from the same issue.
Using Airplance mode seems to resolve the issue in some cases, but not all.
I hope Apple have solved this in iOS7, the company are thinking about dropping iPhones for Android which I do not want to have to support.

Sep 24, 2013 11:43 AM in response to John 32by JAMak,You have to go in and delete the account, then re add. This applies to all accounts on the iPhone/iPad. All of your original settings such as calanders and contacts will remain the same after you re add the account(s).

Sep 25, 2013 12:31 AM in response to JAMakby mattfromhatfield peverel,Yes I agree that works, however having to do it 2-3 times a week is unaceptable. It is sad to see iOS7 has not fixed this bug.
