Read through the Airprint troubleshooting advice here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Make sure that you have the latest firmware installed in your printer and that your router supports Bonjour (zero configuration networking).
The fact that your PC can print to the printer means nothing. It isn't using Airprint.
Restarting your printer and WiFi router by removing power to them for 30 seconds may clear up the problem.

If you are sure your iPhone and printer are on the same wifi network then the most likely problem is that your router is blocking the Bonjour packets used for discovery. What make and model router?

I had already read through the info on the link suggested by JimHdk.
My printer was on the Apples approved list. and I therefore assumed everything was OK with the printer.
When I checked the firmware version (printet a nozzle check pattern - version is printed below) I could see my version was 1.040.
I downloaded and installed firmware updater from Canon´s webpage, and now have version 2.010 -
Apparently PDF´s and jpeg can be printed no problem, but from an email I need to go through a long registration procedure for every mailadress I want to print from. This I still have to do.
I immediately checked my iPhone and from a PDF I could find the Canon printer and I printed 2 pages succesfully. I have just tried to do this again, but this time no luck?!!
I wonder what the PC is using to print, if not Airprint, as I have no wire between the pc and the printer?
I have now learned that I should always begin with a full update of drivers etc. when I purchase new equipment!
