Your guess seems to be correct. Although I was certain I've used this media before and without issue. I tried changing the writing speed, but it was already set to 16x and the media is marked as 16x.
I used a DL 2.4x DVD instead and it writing as we speak. Thank you for your suggestion and the time to reply. Very helpful.
Me too...got a stack of TDK DVD-R blanks at costco and tried to use 'em for burning. Some worked and some didn't. sent 'em back to TDK. Got a whole new stack. Some worked and some didn't. Could be the brand or the batch. I'm as puzzled as you are, Robert P. Why some work and some don't is a mystery. What I was told, and have verified, that certain brands work, and others don't. Again, why, I dunno. However-verbatim is a solid bet are are Taiyo Yuden (hard to find, maybe). Sony doesn't work. Maxell sorta works okay. Memorex could be okay.
\also, try running disk utility and verifying permissions. Could be helpful. How much Ram do you have on board?
just a shot in the dark
I run 4 Gigs.
If what you say holds true for me then it explains why I remember burning successful DVDs before. Then again as time goes by my memory seems to improve I might have burned successful TDK DVDs on my old 17" G4 Powerbook before giving it away.
Still I might just go through what remains of the stack. Half at this point. Then either throw them away or give them to someone who can burn them.
I ran Permission Repair a few weeks back. I doubt that would help.
Holy Zombie Post, Batman !
Dear Mr. Pena: I think you have a few options
1-change brand of media. Verbatim work fine
2-clean lens of dvd drive
I'd go for #1-probably cheapest and easiest to do. 3 isn't that hard, but it can be a bit of a pain in the butt. a new drive would be around $25, and you can probably use any ATAPI drive ( I think). If you get really fed up, though, find a thumbdrive, take it to someone else, ask them to do it. If it's just video, you should be okay.
Hi, I have a Lite-on ATAPI burner in my MacPro 1,1 since the Optiarc died. Good piece of hardware, recognized by Mac OS X.
Regarding DVD-R brands, I had some TDKs that worked fine for a while, then recently I could not burn them anymore. Stuck at lead-ins. Then I tried a Verbatim and bang! Worked great!
Clean the laser lens with a CD kit, wipe off dust, burn at 6x, try Verbatims.
