Forgot to add: when i talked to the crew before i gave my mbp they said it could be water damage

Why did you post "water damage?" in your title. Did you spill water on it.
If the apple repair center says it needs a top case I would trust their option. You could take it to some other repair place and get a second option.

I remember placing it in my bag with my tumbler (the day before) but i dont recall spills or feeling my bag wet or anything. I always thought it was software since i did download a bunch the day before too, t was acting really fine until that day.

Usually, when these computers get wet, they just die outright. Can't visualize a damage scenario that would just cause sluggish performance, but as they say, all things are possible. Besides the keys on the top part of the keyboard, is any other part malfunctioning? DVD? Ports? Trackpad?
