Yeah, I've always been happy with iTunes tech support, and I've been using iTunes nearly exclusively for 7 years now. The only time I buy something on DVD or CD or whatever is if it's simply not available on iTunes (and I don't think it ever will be... like I waited and begged on both iTunes and the Lost Girl Facebook page for season 2, finally we got it, however I doubt "One Night at McCool's" will be on iTunes any time soon, so I bought the DVD) So, I really am hoping this is just something they are having trouble with and isn't a sign of a bad future when the past has been so good.
I just noticed something... I got this email...
First it says to go to Purchased to download it then it says about Apple TV auto-downloading, but no longer says "Click here to download" or in any way even suggests that Windows or Mac iTunes has a queue anymore... In fact, where it says "Select Settings" it's talking about the Apple TV, not the iTunes computer program. Otherwise, at least for Windows, it wouls say "Select Store from the file bar, then select "Check for Available Downloads" or something to that effect....
So... maybe it's not a bug, but a change in functionality?
I pulled up two emails, one from a month ago, one from this week. The second paragraph (about apple TV) is unchanged (and identical to the one posted above). But the first one has changed:
From April 4:
The latest episode of Psych, Season 7 is now available for you to download. Click here and it will begin downloading after you have signed in to iTunes. You can also go to the Store menu and select Check for Available Downloads (or select Check for Purchases in iTunes 7).
From this morning:
The latest episode of Orphan Black is now available for you to download. You can download it now or at any time in the future by visiting Purchased.
So, they have clearly changed the text of the email, and taken out any reference to "check for available downloads". It is mentioned in the second paragraph, but that paragraph has not changed, and appears to only relate to AppleTV, not an iTunes client on a computer or device.
This is a pretty significant change, and appears to violate the statement on the page where the season pass was purchased, which states "Current episodes will download immediately and future episodes will download as they become available." (That quote is still on the page today, so they have not changed that.) They are trying to change the rules AFTER I have already given them my money, which is somewhere between rude and fraud.
From Steve Taylor1 in another thread, "purchased seasons without automatic downloads":
In itunes store click on the Purchased link under Quick Links. Navigate to the tv show and click on the Cloud with arrow icon by the side of them. They should download with no extra cost.
It's not automatic, but it gets me the episode on my computer.
The ony problem with this theory at the moment is that it is Only happening in the US Store - every other store it still works as it is supposed to.
It could be they are trialling this new method in the US - to roll out to other stores later ....
The australian store wording for a season pass is different again but the check for downloads still works....
logged into the australian store this morning and Game of Thrones started downloading straight away , logged into the US Store and none of the episodes automatically started downloading and check for downloads doesnt work.
The wording against the stores is different - yes - but the functionality still exists , just not for the US store - which would "imply" a problem...
Just got charged $2.99 for this week's Defiance Episode... Realized it just as I pressed it that "**** that says 2.99 HD" not "Download HD" but it was too late, I'd already pressed the button. I've emailed them for a refund and told them to please fix this because it's to the point of being super annoying.
Had the same problem with Revolution, so I sent off an email to Apple, and got the following response:
"I understand that you are unable to download the available episodes of the TV SHow automatically after purchasing the season pass and you have been charged again for an episode. I appreciate your decision in contacting us regarding this and I am happy to help you.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Apple has not disabled the automatic downloads, but there is an ongoing issue with the available downloads, Apple is currently investigating the issue, and the issue will be resolved at the earliest.
After reviewing the circumstances of your case, we determined that issuing you a refund for your duplicate purchase is an appropriate exception to the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions, which state that all sales are final.
In five to seven business days, a credit of 1.99 USD should be posted to the credit card that appears on your receipt for that purchase."
So, at least according to this email, this is a known issue they are trying to fix, rather than an intentional change to functionality.
I've been having the same problems.
I've been in contact with a helpful person at Apple Support called Rona.
When I contact her she reposts the episodes that I need to download into my account and then I'm able to download them as soon as I open up and log into iTunes.
This is part of the email she's sent back
"I did investigate on this and found that several users are also experiencing the said issue. Apple is currently working toward a resolution for this issue. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
In the meantime, I have reposted the latest episodes. You may download them now by checking your Available Downloads."
I've just received another email re-another tv show which I'm not able to download. So It seems that they have to manually add them to my account each time.
This is only happening to my US account. The UK one is working fine.
So it looks like we shall have to keep emailing them and then the problem may be fixed.
