I have a Surfboard that is at least a year old. I don't think this is a modem issue. I think it's a software issue, probably with the Airport. My issues started after doing the last firmware update.

The strangest, most maddening thing: why is Apple silent?
Certainly since they censor these messages, there is someone watching, reading and aware. This is a HUGE problem that has gone ignored (a business 'reaction').
DEMAND A NEW MACBOOK - that is the answer. Call Customer Care/Service/Relations at Apple Corporate. Do not try to figure it out. It's a product malfunction and product failure. They should replace all MBPs that are having this problem. And they have replaced mine and many on this site.
$$$ is the only language they speak: demand a new MBP. Good luck.

This is what you do:
Call Apple or go into a store and ask politely for them to fix it. If they try to give you the run around, then ask for the manager. Ask the manager for the same thing. DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! I and many others have had items replaced when it is clearly a defective product. You just have to help them see you're not one of the free loaders that ruins products and trys to get apple to replace them. If Apple sold us defective anything.....they usually step up and do the right thing.....with a little coaxing.
In the mean time, I just bought a little wireles adapter for my USB for like 10 bucks
It can get you buy until you have time to go to an Apple store or if they say no the first time and you have to keep trying!

Am I the only person who's wifi problem doesn't fix itself with rebooting? Every time I lose my connection (probably twice a month) I have to connect my MBP via ethernet, go into my router settings, and change the router channel. This will solve the problem for like two weeks. I've even set my channel to some obscenely high number that nobody else could possibly (and doesn't, according to my MBP system details) use around me. And why is it that this only happens at home? I woke up this morning to my wifi not working, said F it and went to work without fixing it. At work I was connected all day, no problem. Then I come home and once again I can't connect to the internet. What is the deal with this? We've been having these issues for what, a year? And Apple still wont address it...

I called to demand a replacement and was told no. I was told I need to go back to the Apple Store.

You need to have SOME history of trying, and/or attempts to fix. Along with a history of attempts with your service provider (mine is ATT). Once you have established even a short history - without success- THEN you call Customer Service.
So it's good that you made the first attempt. Now follow through with Apple Store, and keep excellent records. Also call Apple several times (I would call every day) - because each time is a separate 'event' to them.
I had no trouble, nor did others on this site. I'm assuming it's because we had a history. Mine new computer was given to me the next day. Others here got theirs the same day. Just push forward. Take the necessary steps, and don't give up. For everyone's sake: don't give up.

Those of you who have gotten a new MBP: have any of you experienced any wifi issues with your new machines at all? I'm considering trying this route, but not if I'm going to experience the same problems.

NO problems with the new one. NONE.
I am very happy with my new MBP. Having said that - I would rather not have sufferred the one and a half years, and the toll it took on me, and my small business -- not to mention on ATT (Apple blamed them, and ATT did everything possible, including retrenching my street, and CAT-5 wiring, over 40 visits to my house.) ATT could have recovered what they spent from Apple - - I suppose that's one reason I got my new MBP so quickly and quietly. I said to Apple Customer Service, "Do you realize how much money ATT has spent trying to correct your problem?"

I have had my new MBP for over two weeks and have no issues with connectivity at all. NONE. I think that either the last firmware update or software update for Airport was the culprit. It didn't effect my newer MBP but it did effect my white MB. I was going to replace it anyway because it was beyond being able to do any more updates, but it sure was annoying. The funny thing was, if I moved the white laptop closer to the airport unit, I would pick up a signal again. But it still wouldn't hold. But spending $1500 for a new laptop is hardly an answer and doesn't bode well for Apple. <---are you reading this Apple?

I have problems with my connecting as well, I have narrowed it down to using chrome. I do not have the same problems when I use safari.

No, no problems at all for over 1 year now. I even used a time machine image from the "broken" MBP on the new one for a while, wifi worked perfectly.
Like laurenmay said, you need to prove first that you have tried every other possible solution. After that, the best way is just taking it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and discuss the problem there. This should get the ball rolling. Don't bluntly ask for a new MBP, just let them try to fix it and keep returning the MBP until it's really fixed. (i.e. replaced). Don't take no for an answer!

Hi everyone, what eventually helped me was changing the wifi router settings – I stopped using channel 12 and above or the Auto option and forced to use channel 11 or lower. Since then no issue (home wifi network not in the menu, disconnecting, asking for password) whatsoever.
It wasn't QoS, security options, signal/antenna, router firmware, too many computers on the network, mac settings, b/g/n.
And this applies to Pro, Air and iPad as far as I know/have tried.
