When I load "Messages" on my MacBook Air, all of the recieved and send Imessges are out of sequential order.  Is there anything I can do to prevent this?  Or do I need to wait for apple to update as needed???

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I've noticed the same issue. Have you tried quitting Messages and reopening it? That updated the UI in my case, so it appears to be a slight UI glitch.  Looking at the files that Messages stores all the messages in shows the messages are timestamped correctly.  It does seem to be a slight UI bug which will hopefully be fixed in a future update.

    HI,

In the Message Beta that came out for Lion and all version in Mountain Lion have had variants of this issue.

It appears that when the Mac version is Off line and  Conversation has been going on on an iPhone, when Messages is started up on the Mac the current conversation starts to "sync"

This is played through like a speeded up Chat.

However if the contact send you a new iMessage this will appear instantly and out of sequence.

Despite being Time Stamped these iMessages remain out of order for that session.

As mentioned by the other Poster it seems some iMessages will get sorted if the app is closed and reopened.

    HI,

I would use the iChat Feedback page

The App is essentially iChatand the version numbers follow on.

iMessages are *very often* out of sequential order on various devices.

This is happening since iMessages were introduced and I cannot understand why this has not been fixed yet. Apple should address this issue a.s.a.p. as it is annoying an sometimes confusing in a conversation.

    Hi,

Apple employees do read these support communities and often respond via their personal accounts.

It used to very clear when an Apple employee was posting due to their Avatar being a white Apple  (Some say silver).

To get this they were given permission to post after asking for it.

I am aware that some will have accounts that don't show the Avatar as they have not asked permission.

(And others claiming to work for Apple  but having no real insight).

Those posters I have known to be working for Apple tend to be either Store employees or specialists in some apps.

I have not known of any that claimed to work elsewhere within Apple (such as an engineer of any sort).

A long time ago at the launch of iChat 3 the Hosts contacted some of the regular posters in the iChat Forums of the time and asked for various bits of data.  (However that was several versions of Software that runs the "Apple Discussions" and also a whole team of Hosts ago).

People who have reached Level 6 can also post in the Lounge and one Community there is read by the Hosts more directly then the rest of Discussions.

In the past I have used it to point out the iChat feed back page  rarely keeps up to date with OS of iChat versions. (The OS drop down lists Lion and up to OS X 10.8.3 in Mountain Lion but the iChat version one does not list iChat 6 or sub versions).

As far as I am aware all routes available to Posters have been used.

Not bringing any insight to the conversation, but raising my hand to say this is my biggest gripe with Messages.

I am a heavy user of it as we use AIM to connect over 700 coworkers across the country.  I use Messages as my AIM interface (I used iChat before and Messages is definitely an improvement for me).  We'll be upgrading the company from Lion to Mountain Lion next month and advising the iPhone users to begin using Messages, so there should be a little influx of equally head-scratching individuals coming soon.  The sequential ordering of chats is all over the place when you mix iMessage and Messages.  I can't even make sense of the order.

And wow are you in for it if you ever add Facebook syncing to your Contacts.  It occassionally overwrites AIM handles.  Haven't figured out if that's an Apple or Facebook issue yet.  However it becomes exteremely apparent within Messages.

I am still seeing this in Messages with iMessage texts in 10.8.3.

Be sure to submit feedback directly to Apple so they are made aware of not just the problem but the quantity of people affected: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

This is a dumb problem to have Apple. Please fix.

    Thank you.

    hi,

Just to be clear.  This is a User to User Forum and Apple don't officially monitor the Posts.

The Hosts (Moderators) are Paid by Apple.  The Servers it is hosted on are Apple's.

But they don't trawl the Boards looking for stuff  to "Fix".

As John P. posted there is a feed back site.
