I have a friend in England with an iPhone. I updated her contact to her new number and changed it to "iPhone." I tried to send her an iMessage today and it kept wanting to send as a regular SMS, which is blocked on my phone. I sent iMessages to a few people to check and see if it was down altogether and they all worked.

Next, I sent a message in WhatsApp to the first person and it went right through, so her number is correct (which I verified with her). She tried sending on to ME and got some other person, even after I verified my number for her.

Any ideas on what could be happening?

iPhone 4, iOS 6, Verizon. White. 8GB.

Your UK friends need to check their settings to make sure iMessage is enabled (and working).  Perhaps have them test with other iOS users on their end to make sure it is working for them.

Also, that the contact label (home, work, mobile, iPhone, etc.) in your Contacts for this person has no effect on this.
