HT1766 problems backing up ipad 2 to my pc

backup listed items (downloaded apps) that could not be backed up to my pc because the pc was not authorized to have them.  I went to the command to authorize my pc and it stated it was already authorized. I ran the backup several more times with same result.  If I select to start the update, it warns that there are apps that are not backed up.  I am afraid that if I run the update, these apps will be lost.  Most were free, but it is my wife's ipad and I don't want to lose the dozens (>100) apps.  I don't understand what the problem is.  My pc is a Windows pc.  I assume that should not be a problem.  I could make a listed of all her apps and re-download them after the update.  She has been after me to get the ios updated for her, but I better not lose anything!!

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
