Q: Airport Extreme dropping connection

Issue with client's Airport Extreme (one month old) needing to be rebooted 4-5 times daily. Clients lose internet connectivity - both wired and wireless - green light on router. Static IP assigned to router and manually entered. Installed in small office - less than 10 users - all Macintosh. Port forwarding on three ports for Daylite CRM. Firmware at 7.5.1, No guest network enabled.
Troubleshooting included:
Switched ISP from ADSL to Cable (completely different technology and modems)
Switched router out and replaced with identical router - reconfigured manually
Turned on interference robustness
Changed both wireless channels
Changed out power supply and put both modem and router on UPS

    Have had this problem for a while and finally solved it. The Keychain access app had many duplicates of my airport passwords from previous times. Clearing them all on both computers solved the problem after I discovered that my Apple TV was not being affected so decided the problem was in the two iMacs and not the Airport Extreme.

    Sadly I had this issue with the only Windows laptop in the house... so I wasn't able to clean out the keychain. I even went as far as formatting and reinstalling windows 7 and only connecting once to my Extreme - same issues. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the airport and laptop were not agreeing on encryption standards or gracefully handling the "rollover" when the WPA2 key changes. But there is no excuse for this when the laptop doesn't have any of these issues with Cisco APs, Linksys APs, or netgear stuff.

    Dino here, Comcast ISP and second airport BSE to slowly die. They start out great, then for no reason, they will not stay connected to the internet. Happens on laptop running Lion, iMac on Snow Lep, iphones and ipads.

    It is madding! I am now convinced it is not a Comcast issue (gawd that hurt to write) but another $200 down the drain.

    Saddest thing is I have a D-Link wifi router that just will not die! Cost only 65 bucks and I retired it because it was too slow.  I do see in the configuration page that the DNS servers and Comcast domain are "ghosted" out when the drop cycle begins. I have tried adding the setting staticly, but that fails as well.

     

    I thought the adage was good, fast or inexspesive choose any two. Not in this case. The issue contiues for 8 pages without a resolution. Sad days indeed. Going to have to buy a Cisco product I guess. Too bad they are butt ugly and clunky but they do work and support does fix them. 3 years of mucking around just trying to do email at home is enough.

    UPDATE: Went to the Apple store and told out collective tale of woe and since my BE was still in warenty and they could see that this will be the 3rd airport extreme, the Guenius gave me a new device to try out. So far so good.

    I did a quick YES TO ALL defalut setup for my network. Fingers crossed that this worked.

    Am facing to the same problem since two months. during streaming of content from itune or youtube the internet connection is getting disconected every few minutes. direct connection to the wall socket works without any iterruption. the problem is the AE.  is there any update available yet forthis problem?

    I had the same issue and am seeing some results by changing to earlier Firmware version for the Apple Airport Extreme. Now running Mac OS version -10.8.2 and version 7.6 on the AP, had updated and saw some issues. So far so good.

    Is there a solution somewhere in this thread? I have a type 2 problem.  This Airport was awesome, flawless and the greatest thing ever for 9 months.  In the last 4 days it has been a nightmare.  I have replaced my AT&T modem and it has not helped.  The bottom line is that if the DSL connection is lost even for a moment the light on Airport flashes orange and it will not reconnect. Only after a still unknown combination of modem , router and PC retsarts will is regain connection.  Please advise what is the solution?

    Jerry, it sounds like your Airport could use a swift kick in the pants.

     

    Restore default settings using the AirPort Utility (it's a menu option, not in the GUI).

     

    If that doesn't solve it, you can reflash the firmware. Check out this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1218

    Airport Extrem is simply causing the disconnection. Have done everything written here. still it doesn't work. I have disconnected the Extrem out of my network. Everything is ok again.

     

    Can only say "Trash"

     

    For this price you can get much better products in the market but than the music stream with express network doesn't work anymore.

     

    Thank you Apple for keeping us busy.

    Okay, I just solved my problem! My internet is SUPER fast again. Hopefully this helps you as well. Comcast upgraded our network to IPV6. They even have their own link to the issue: http://www.comcast6.net/index.php/6to4config#faq3

     

    Go into:

    1. AirportUtility (firmware version doesn't matter so I updated back to the latest greatest version after downgrading)

    2. Click on your base station then hit edit

    2. Internet

    3. Internet Options

    3. Configure IPV6: Automatically

    4. IPV6 Mode: Tunnel

    5. Enable IPV6 Connection Sharing is Checked

    I tried your solution and it seems to work.

     

    My internet is super fast, but my Airport Extreme has a "relay error" message in the Airport Utility, and the light is a flashing amber color.

     

    I also configured my Airport Express to IPv6 (part of the network) and it is a steady green light, no error messages.

     

    It's strange because I have internet connectivity.

     

    Any ideas to fix the relay error message?

    I was able to resolve relay error by unplugging both my modem and Airport just to be safe (I was thinking of just doing it to the airport).

    Hello everybody,

     

    I read this discussion and I'm so regretted to have changed my Linksys WRT54 by an Airport Extreme 5G. I'm facing the Type2 problem. My connection drops spontaneously (green light during a time and suddenly that ambar light starts to blink). I have a Huawei MT880 (ADSL) modem in Bridge mode and the AE is in PPPoE and using the latest firmware version (7.6.3). I don't believe that there's no solution for this kind of matter. I'm very frustrated with this device. APPLE I want my money back !!

    I tried unplugging everything and I still get the relay error message. I just clicked ignore it and everything works great. Best of all, the internet is much faster. Thanks!
