Q: iBook G4, internet browsing and software(s) to be upgraded???
Hello.
I have an iBook G4 (powerpc G4 - 1.2, 1.33Ghz, 256 Mo RAM, 60Go HD, Safari v123 - v125.9, Mac OS X 10.3.5).
I just want to do very basic internet browsing (infos/news web sites, online purchases on famous retailer web sites, travel tickets purchase, etc...).
The laptop has never been connected to the internet until 2 days ago !!! (and all pre-installed softwares never updated online, nor off-line by the way).
I have just tried to do basic browsing on the Web but I have some issues with some websites like page format sligthly mixed up, drop-down list not displayed, sometimes stuck on some pages.
What do I need to do to make it work properly?
I would like to avoid having to upgrade any hardware as well (ie RAM).
Do I have to upgrade Safari and is it possible to do it alone without the Mac OS update?
Or do I need to also upgrade the Mac OS X?
Or could it be related to Java, Adobe flash player, other files?
I read the other posts and I guess (but not sure so please confirm!!) that my problems should be fixed if I upgrade to Mac OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) and Safari v4.1.3 (the max suported by an iBook G4).
Where can I buy these software updates: on amazon?
Last but not least, it is impossible to make "software updates" work properly.
The programme starts running but then suddenly stops after 10-20seconds.
Error message states that the laptop is not connected, which is obviously wrong.
What do I need to do to delete this old version of software updates and where can I download a more recent version which will work properly, please?
Or are there some parameters that I would need to change in my current config??
Thanks in advance for your help.
