Yeah I got a simiar email...

"I understand that you purchased the season pass for "Defiance", but were charged when trying to download the latest episode. When it comes to your money, I can certainly appreciate how important it is to feel that you are treated fairly, and I would be more than happy to help you out with this today.

I have looked into this for you, and I was able to determine that there is currently a provisioning issue in our system that is preventing new episodes for season pass holders from downloading automatically. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Having said this, after reviewing the circumstances of your case, we determined that issuing you a refund for your duplicate purchase is an appropriate exception to the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions, which state that all sales are final.

In five to seven business days, a credit of $2.99 should be posted to the credit card that appears on your receipt for that purchase.

While we are investigating this issue, if a new episode is not automatically downloading, please do not repurchase the episode. If you discover that iTunes is no longer showing a warning message for buying an item you already bought, you will want to reset your warnings, as described in this article:

    Resetting iTunes Store warnings

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1734

Instead of repurchasing the episode, please let us know the episode is not automatically posting to your account. We have the ability to repost the episode manually to your account for redownload instead.

In the meantime, Apple is currently working toward a resolution for this provisioning issue. I will continue to hold onto your case, and will let you know as soon as the matter has been investigated and further information is available."

So, it SEEMS it ISNT an intended thing for us to no longer get them automaticallly... but a provisioning issue.

THANK YOU! It worked and my missing episodes are downloading now. Hopefully Apple will fix Check for Available Downloads though. I've been using that (easier) method for years.

I have been informed by Apple iTunes Store Support that this is an intentional change (case 267781180). The message was: "Jocelyne here; thank you for your response indicating that you now have five Seasons purchased for which you are not receiving the episodes automatically and you want this issue to be escalated. I have spoken to my Senior Advisor and we are confirming for you that Season Passes now have to be downloaded from the Purchases page. This is normal behaviour going forward, and is how iTunes is set up now.". This will be a huge backward step and very inconvenient. Now if I'm away from home no new shows will be downloaded for the rest of my family to watch.

This is such as stupid change..... why would they do this?

  • AbsolutGrndZer0 Level 1 Level 1 (40 points)

Ewww, thanks for the info..... everyone reply back COMPLAINTS.... I just sent them this email in fact...

""Someone else just got this information...

I would like to say, if this is in fact true, I would like to say WHY WHY WHY IS THIS CHANGE BEING DONE? WHY?  Having to go to my purchased tab and scroll down through all my shows and find the one I want to download FOR THE FIRST TIME is annoying.  Please, restore the automatic downloading!""

So, hopefully we can get enough of us complaining about this "normal behaviour going forward" and they will change it back.

I'm having the same issue, plus one.

I have been having a problem with iTunes for the past three weeks. I recently purchased a season 6 pass "Mad Men" (Standard Definition). The first two episodes downloaded without any problems. The third episode did not and iTunes reports that "All purchases have been downloaded for this account." I reported this to an Apple chat assistant who made the episode available in my account. A new episode is now available and I am missing three downloads total. I cannot download them from the Mad Men Season 6 SD page because iTunes doesn't recognize that I bought a pass and asks for the $1.99/episode price.

In addition, I bought Snow Leopard 10.6 and updated my MacBook (it's from mid 2007) because I was told by a chat associate that it could be an operating system problem. Now, my MacBook is OS X 10.6.3 and is running iTunes 10.6.3. I've now paid $22.99 for the season pass and $20.99 for updated Snow Leopard and the problem is still around.

Lastly, when I click on "Purchased" from the iTunes homepage, the "Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Books" page opens up, but I am unable to click on any of them. So even though I most definitely have bought a pass, I cannot find a way to download the episodes without having an Apple representative put it in my account. The inability to click "TV Shows" is a problem that I haven't seen come up on the Apple Support Communities. Does anyone know why this might be the case?

Reply to myself above: I managed to get TV Shows opened in Purchased and it's blank. I've bought three season passes before, but nothing is showing up.

And yes, I'm in the US.

  • AbsolutGrndZer0 Level 1 Level 1 (40 points)

Hmmm.. do you see your shows listed on the left side? Also, make sure you try both "All" and "Not on this Computer" options to make sure the stuff is 100% not there.

Either way, having to go to our purchased tab to download the latest episode is STUPID.

Wow, it all started working for me. I was not expecting that. All of a sudden, my TV shows are finally showing up when I go from iTunes Store >>> Purchased >>> TV Shows. I haven't seen this screen before. It had been completely blank until I checked this morning. If it makes a difference to anyone else in the future, I reported the issue and this was the response:

...before we can investigate this issue further, I would like to ensure that these purchases haven't been hidden, as the iTunes Store now offers the ability to hide purchases from your Purchased page on your computer and iOS device.

I kindly ask that you review the below article to check to see if these purchases are hidden. If you find that they are hidden, please unhide them:

iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919

I reported back that it did not work. I received another email from a Senior Specialist who said:

I have taken ownership of your case and would like to assure you that all future correspondences on this matter will come directly to me. I will be working diligently with you to the best of my abilities to resolve the issue(s) you’ve encountered, and I do appreciate your patience on this continuing matter. I have reviewed all past correspondences to acquaint myself with the situation, and from your latest reply I see you have nothing show up under "Purchased TV Shows" after following the steps to show the purchases. I know how concerning this situation continues to be, and I am here to keep helping with this issue.

Your inquiry is very important to me, so I have requested assistance with the issue you reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

Whatever the issue was, it seems to have magically cleared itself up overnight (after many hours spent trying to fix it). Thanks for all your help and advice! I read all the postings in this thread and it sounds like there are many frustrated iTunes users. Good luck, everyone!

I agree this might be a half baked attempt to promote streaming but I think it will backfire on Apple. Just this last week I have signed up for Amazon Prime and Netflix to compare their services (and really enjoyed House of cards that is only availabe on Netflix).  I use downloaded content on iTunes because it's convenient and doesn't cause problems with download bandwidth in the evening when my family might have 3 Apple TV's watching content.  I'm close to consulting a lawyer because Apple have clearly broken the season pass agreement which clearly states

'You will receive an email when future episodes of Defiance, Season 1 are available and the episodes will be downloaded automatically to the Apple ID listed above the next time you sign in to iTunes. Or, if you prefer, make sure you are signed in to iTunes and then click here to download any episode currently waiting in your queue."

Under the revised usage as described by Apple Customer care neither statement (automatically download when I start iTunes or click check for available downloads) are now true and we were not notified of the change.

  • RandomPrime Calculating status...

I'm not sure that it's clearly intentional when half the people (myself included) are still being told that it is a known problem that they are trying to fix. I just got the following email in the last hour:

"I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Until this issue with the available download is resolved, you can download the episodes from the purchased page section. Please follow the steps in the below mentioned article."

I responded with a link to this thread, and a paste of the post above that has a case number and an explicit statement that this is intentional.  I asked him to look into that case number, and let me know why we are getting two completely incompatible answers to an identical question, and which one is correct.

Streaming may be convenient for some, but for people like me who watch shows on the tube, and on airplanes, streaming is simply not possible.  I rarely watch shows when I'm at home, so I need to be able to download, and I suspect I'm not the only one.

Besides, I don't think you can stream videos from iPad or iPod yet.

  • kitschcamp Calculating status...

The automatic words are back in the newly purchased season pass today:

"You will receive an email when future episodes of Hannibal, Season 1 are available and the episodes will be downloaded automatically to the Apple ID listed above the next time you sign in to iTunes. Or, if you prefer, make sure you are signed in to iTunes and then click here to download any episode currently waiting in your queue. If at any time you wish to perform this same action, go to the Store menu and select Check for Available Downloads (or select Check for Purchases in iTunes 7)."

  • AbsolutGrndZer0 Level 1 Level 1 (40 points)

    Just got this back...

    "

Thank you for getting back to me. At this time, I have not been made aware of any permanent changes to how new episodes are delivered and downloaded. However, downloading your episodes from the Purchased page is a work around while we work on restoring the automatic downloads. I can assure you that this matter is still open and being investigated. I will let you know as soon as I have any further information."

So, yeah hopefully that person that posted above was just misunderstanding the question... or something.  Not sure...
