I have all sorts of issues between my Macbook Pro, Retina Mid 2012 and my 27" LED Cinema Display.

They seem to have accumulated over time.

Both of these upgrades reported: "Your Computer Does not need this update."

The issues:

  1. Audio distortion in Facebook audio (message alerts, voice messages). This occurs only when the computer is unplugged from the monitor, and has been plugged into it at least once since reboot. The Facebook alerts sound like a blown-out speaker.
  2. Each time I plug into the monitor, sound preferences appear mute (as desired in my office), but sounds are audible. Pressing mute returns preferences' visual cues back to ON. Pressing a second time puts both the icon and the audio to Mute.
  3. Skype - unplugged from monitor - sound comes only from right laptop speaker.
  4. Messages.app Screen share - can never have an audio meeting with headphones on, because of one or the other of these bugs. All of these bugs were also present with Snow Leopard/iChat as well.
    1. Cinema audio output takes over, even though headphones are plugged in and Alt-chosen in Audio Preferences
    2. Remote person cannot hear audio
    3. No sound from remote person audible to me
    4. Remote receiver reports seeing tiny, illegible version of both screens or larger screen. In attempt to solve this, I unplug the 27" Cinema Display from the computer. Remote pers sees reasonably clear version of my laptop screen, and audio bugs 2 or 3, above, take over.
  5. Skype - can never have an audio meeting with headphones on, because of one or the other of these bugs:
    1. Cinema audio output takes over, even though headphones are plugged in and Alt-chosen in Audio Preferences
    2. Remote person cannot hear audio
    3. No sound from remote person audible to me

You might ask, "why do I not have the thunderbolt 27" display?" The reason is because it was incompatible with the Macbook Pro that I had when I bought the monitor.
