Hello everyone, I have an iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.2.1 which I need to upgrade. With all the new iOS versions released and the reviews I've been reading, I'm kinda lost as to which verion will work best with my phone. Any help??

iPhone 4, iOS 4.2

You can ONLY update to the current version, which is 6.1.3 as of this writing.  You do not get a choice as to what version to install.

And installing them constitutes an unauthorized modification to the phone, which voids any warranty and forfeits all rights to support...

But since there is no reason to seriously contemplate installing an older version other than an attempt to maintain a jailbreak or illegal unlock, you probably don't care about that.

Battery life problems are almost always caused by corruption during installation or corruption in the backup used to restore the phone. There have been complaints about battery life with every single update that's ever been released for iOS.

Of all the people I know, I don't personally know anyone who's had battery life problems after upgrading.

Do this: Wait until iOS 7 is released then install 6.1.3 and it will be perfect at that time. Posters here will say so.

Instead of using Update, Restore in iTunes. Setup as New. Sync back personal data with iTunes tabs.

User Reviews are that iOS 5.1.1 is fairly stable in all respects for iPhone 4. But.... Apple does not permit any other than the current and that is iOS 6.1.3

If you have iOS lower than 5 on your iPhone, you can Update in iTunes only to iOS 6.1.3
