SSL... on or off?

Should SSL be on or off? DO I change PORT numbers if it's on or off?

Does SSL on really do any good or enough good??? I hear it makes things slower.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), purchased Sept 2012

    I think you are referring to your mail setup. SSL depends on the mail provider you have. Contact with your mail provider to know if they use SSL or not, but if the setup you have now works, don't modify it, because you have the correct SSL

    SSL provides secure connections, so it makes your mail more secure than without having SSL
