I doubt you can get the songs off it. iTunes does not allow you to copy songs off a ipod. It only allows you to copy from a computer to a ipod.

If it's in the mac format then you have a mac, right. So all your songs whould be on that mac.

Other than that your only option is to reset it and connect it to a PC then reload your songs. You do have a backup of them, don't you.

You can do it using third-party methods and utilities.  If do do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  The problem is that Windows cannot read the Mac disk format.  If you were going from Windows to Mac, that would be OK, because Macs can read the Windows disk format.

So, if you really want to do it, you'd need to first get (not free) software that adds the ability for Windows to read the Mac disk format.  Then, you may be able to off-load songs from the iPod to the computer.

If you still have the Mac, then it would be easier to get the song files from the Mac and transfer them to the Windows PC, using a USB external drive or flash drive.  Macs and Windows PCs can both read and write the FAT32 disk format.  This document provides detailed directions.

NOTE:  Previously purchased songs from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.
