Q: Firewire not working on emac

I have 2 identical emacs and I need to access the hard drive on emac #1.  I hooked up a firewire, and when I turn on emac #1 I hear a beep sound.  When I turn on emac #2, I get a yellow helicopter blade picture, while holding down the T key.  What am I doing wrong?
