In settings, make sure you have all notifications turned off, especially on your startup screen, because it turns your device on and off, which drains the battery. I went through and disabled notifications on all my apps. The default is on I think when you download new apps, so be careful, especially for mail and Facebook, etc.

That's normal if you use the phone the way it was intended, taking advantage of many of the key features.

In other words, disable most of the features that you bought the phone for in the first place. If you are going to disable everything why not just get a dumb phone and forget the iPhone?

Yes, those useful features use power. If battery life is the most important thing in your life, and usability is not important I guess you can go to a lot of trouble to maximize battery life. But isn't it easier just to charge the phone overnight, every night, and just enjoy the phone and its benefits?
