Netgear Genie airprint no longer working in IOS 6

Since upgrading to IOS 6 my Netgear Genie Software which used to make all networked printers appear as airprint printers is no longer functional.  My IOS 6 devices including my iPad 3 and iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 show "No airprint printers found".  Is there a fix or patch forthcoming from apple?

    I think you'll want to contact Netgear. The AirPrint 101 page has the list of supported AirPrint printers. It also notes "Printers not listed in this article are not supported by AirPrint."


    Netgear sees to be aware of the problem though I don't see that they have posted a solution.

    I Also have this problem.  I have a Netgear WNDR4500 router.  The router so far has been a great router.  I get good signal all over my house on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz.


    However I cannot print to my (non airprint) Lexmark S605 Interact printer.  This has been a great printer.  Both of these devices were easy to setup and use.  Also I keep them up to date on firmware and such.


    To understand this better you must know that Netgear's Genie software clearly states it will "convert" a regular printer to an AirPrint printer.  This list on AirPrint 101 is irrelevant.  Any AirPrint printer list is irrelevant because Netgear claims to be able to "convert" regular printers to AirPrint printers through use of their software.


    I wouldn't advise you to contact Netgear's email support.  They are seriously useless.  I went back and fourth with them for a week on this issue and it took them that long to understand that THEIR software claims these abilities.  This was after literally quoting word for word from the Genie software instructions three different times.  I could never get them to understand that the Genie software suggests that this conversion is even possible wirelessly.  At one point (towards the end) they tried to tell me that I had to buy an AirPrint printer for this conversion to work and that they were very sorry for my inconvenience but this is just how this works.  I had to instruct them that this would negate the need for a "conversion" through their software to the printer.  Also there is only four people that ever respond to email tech support that I ever saw Amrit, Abhishek, Ashish and Sandeep.  When they escalate your problem to a higher level of tech support they actually send it to themselves.


    There are a number of people that are having problems communicating with their printer since their iOS6 upgrade.  Still others with no trouble and further others that have fixed their issues.  I suspect Netgear needs to update / fix the genie software so that it will work correctly.  My mother has a native AirPrint printer.  When at her house I can print from my iPhone 5 with no problem.  No changes of anykind were made to the printer for this to work.  No firmware updates or software updates, she didn't even know it was an AirPrint printer the first time I tried it.  I just walked in the door chose a thing to print on my phone and bang the printer printed it.

    I am also not seeing my network printers via AirPrint while using a NETGEAR WNDR3700v3 with V1.0.0.22 firmware. While my MacBook Pro sees the printers in the Netgear Genie app, I am not able to see them on my iPhone 4 or iPad (3rd Gen).

    According to AirPrint 101 the Netgear Genie app is not an iOS supported product. I think you'll need to contact Netgear.

    I just opened Netgear Genie again, and realized there was an update, which allows for AirPrint to iOS 6 devices! I downloaded/installed it, and it works great!!

    I have the netgear macextreme router which touts greater mac compatibility. It is a true piece of junk. I have an airprint compatible printer. The office jet  6600. You can print to it via airprint if you have the genie up and running on a non ios device. As best i can figure the netgear genie is a software patch that makes routers not compatible with airprint work. So essentially my airprint printer does not work with their router. If you have to have a non ios computer running it is worthless.

    Have you tried printing without the genie program?


    My mother has a Airprint printer.  All I had to do to get hers working was plug everything in, turn it on and connect the printer to her wireless network.  Her wireless network router is something that was provided by the cable company.  I'm not even sure what kind it is.


    To my knowledge, the genie software does not change the router in any way.  It's not installed on the router.  It bridges communication from iOS devices to non-Airprint printers through a PC.  So you can print to a non Airprint printer.  If your printer is already an Airprint printer then it should only need a qualifying wireless network, which you seem to have.  All the magic happens on the printer itself.


    I don't know what you have tried.  I might suggest turning off your PC that has genie installed so there is no chance it is interfering.  Remove any genie app from your ios devices.  Turn the router off, then back on.  Let it restart completely.  Then disconnect your printer from your wireless network and reconnect it.  I had to do this once for my mother.  For no apparent reason her printer stopped printing from my iPhone.  By simply reconnecting it to her network, what ever the problem was had been cleared.  She doesn't need or use the genie software.

    Thanks for your help. I've tried all that. I used an app on my ipad that scans for bonjour servicesand it shows bonjour scanner but not printer.  What  I think might be the issue is that I set up my routher with no security but with the ssid not broadcast.  I have the printer on a manual, reserved ip number.  The documentation says that airprint only works on "private networks."  The only way I see this to be possible would be by detecting whether the network had a specific type of security? Seems like a pretty hoaky way to set something up but that might be it. I may tro doing it that way.

    Ya, I think your on the right track.  You need to look at this from the average (I don't care how) I just want it to work consumer.  Which is by just plugging things in and allowing them their default setups.

    Well I tried all that and to no avail. It works as long as I have the netgear genie running but not otherwise. Re-did the whole set-up with wireless security. I suppose it is the netgear router but it is really ridiculous that these are all fairly new devices and the protocol is so peculiar it can't work.
