My iPhone battery has gone bad.  I have owned the phone for 15 months.  The apple store representative advised me that iPhones are only designed to last for 1 year.  I can't afford $500.00 for a new phone.  I'm incredibly disappointed.  What should I do?

Who ever said that at the Apple store is wrong.  The initial warranty is one year, and you can get AppleCare to extend that warranty.  If the design was to last one year it would not be economical for Apple to offer a warranty for longer than that period.

Take the iPhone to the Apple store genius bar and talk to the techs about replacing the battery in it.  Battery replacement is $79 (US).
