Yes, I read those other posts, but I do not understand these directions
- Head to the menu icon and select Preferences
- Uncheck "Show file sync status"
- Click "Apply Changes"
- If needed, reboot your computer
What is the "menu icon"?
Does this mean rigght click on Goodle Drive in my sidebar? I do not get any "preferences"

Sorry, I don't use Google Drive, so I can't be of much help. Never even heard of it until this issue arose a few days ago. I've just been the messenger. Maybe someone else will come along here, or you can post to that thread I linked. Or contact Google, or ask maybe in Google Groups?
If you search my recent posts, I answered a few more. Maybe you can try asking in one of those. Perhaps this one?

The google drive menu icon looks like this (red arrow)
I had this problem too today, and I've spent a few hours figuring out what the exact problem was.
There was nothing wrong with my back-up clones, and I didn't do any major updates, so I was puzzled.
After a few reboots I noticed the problem wasn't there until Google Drive app asked access to my keychain, and from this point the right-click problem came back.
I can confirm that the temporary fix described above works for now. Good to know, google is aware and trying to fix it.

I looked at other posts and here is how I got my column view right click back.
stop google drive
delete the app from the hard drive
empty the trash
this worked for me
