Q: Printer Driver for RICOH Aficio - only PostScript?

Found the office RICOH Aficio MP C4500 printer on the office network via IP# and the driver (v. 1.3) was installed automatically on my MB! Success!

BUT when printing to the printer from my MB all I get is a postscript dump, eg. text + blank pages. Searching the forums I get the idea that the driver is only for Post Script. And I guess (but don't know for sure) that the printer is lacking the postscript module/feature ...

From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669?viewlocale=en_US I see that the RICOH Aficio MP C4500 is supported by OS X Mountain Lion (and as I mentioned, it did install without any problems). But I can't see that it should be only PostScript?

From http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/re/model/mp35/mp35en.htm I can only find driver (v. 1.0) for OS X 10.7, not any for OS X 10.8 – haven't tried it – and still I can't see that it should be only for post script enabled printers ...

My office windows pc is printing fine to the RICOH Aficio. The driver on here is a RPCS Printer Driver (v. 8.60). The office tech-support will only take care of pc setup - thus I'm on my own when it comes to setting up the printer from my MB!

Do I need a RPCS driver for OS X Mountain Lion? And what does RPCS mean?

Any help is most appriciated!

Is it possible that the Printer needs to have a certain "piece" in order for it to be compatible with the MacBooks? That is what I was told by the Ricoh people, co I gave up.

    Thanks.

I have never heard an explanation like that one. Sounds like Ricoh representative is avoiding the issue. It's not just ML either, I use software that prints through a Windows Server 2008 environment and there too the Ricoh drivers don't work.

I knew something was up, most people do not know how to work with Apple products so they make excuses to not have to work on them. ML? I think that is what I am doing... I am going through an access database on a WIndows Server and I am still not able to print. I am going to try Tomolas's instructions and hopefully I should be able to print... Fingers crossed.

ML = Mountain Lion. And by the way, while I can now print from MBP, I still cannot print when working in the "hosted" Windows environment! It really ***** because I have to use an inefficient workaround to print. Bascially I end up saving documents to my MPB hard drive, opening them on my MBP, and then printing. Major pain!

Anyway, please share if you find a solution.

Yeah, this whole thing is driving me crazy!! I have had my MB since the end of 09' but I was only using it for play until recently, and I am now using it for work. I do not know all the terminology or how to do certain things on it, unfortunately. I downloaded the 2 drivers and the Ghostscript package but I still cannot find the printer to add it. Any suggestions? Also, I do know that I am not able to pull anything out of the database in order to save it on my MB. I hope I can get this printer to work for me through the database if not, I do not know what I am going to do about it.

Where do I find the PXL Driver? I can print on the printer by adding it with it's IP address, but it is printing out in code. I am thinking the PXL Driver is what I need? I have all the other things that were recommended to download. I am going CRAZY trying to figure this out. Any help would be great, thanks!

I am havng the exact same problem with Aficio MP C6000.  I downloaded the 3 package.  My only problem is I have no idea how to install the printer driver.  It is sitting on my desktop, but when I install the printer using IP, I do not know what to select?

Please help, my IT team is not very helpful.

    Thanks,

You can have a look at my post on the first page.

I think you should try to download those 3 packages and then double click each and go through the 'next next' process.

After that go to place you took the screeshot from. If there is a "PXL" option on that "Use:", the select that. If not, then try default values. The "pxl" option should be somewhere on that road, I don't remember exactly where. Whe you see option "pxl" in some option, select it.

I also noticed your ip address is not correct on the screenshot, but you probably know about that.

    Good luck!

    DougStod,

Choose "Use: Select Printer Software," then find Generic PCL 6/ PCL XL hpijs.

And I think you should use IP > HP JetDirect instead of LPD.

Thanks Greg...this worked like a charm.  I used IP > HP JetDirect and the PCL showed up in the list for me to utilize.

    Peace

    Ok...sorry all...but now I have another question.

It seems i can only print in black and white.  When i select color it still prints B&W.  the quality is also a bit fuzzy as well.

    Please advise.

    Thanks
