I tried importing a brand new CD into iTunes but the disk drive on my MacBook won't read it. This is not a problem with the CD because it works on my friend's MacBook, and I don't think it's a problem with the disk drive itself because the drive will read DVDs but not CDs or CD-Rs. I've tried resetting SMC but that doesn't solve anything... The last time I used the disk drive before that was when I burnt a disc so I'm inclined to think my MacBook hasn't unmounted said disc. Here's a screenshot: Screen shot 2013-05-02 at 20.17.28.png - does that mean the computer thinks 'OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5960S' is still mounted? I can't erase the disk - whenever I insert a disc the drive just chugs and chugs for a minute or so and then eventually ejects it.

Any help regarding this matter would be much appreciated. Losing faith with Apple fast!
