Preview is very slow opening in opening a pdf or png file, but it does open these files. However, whenever I make any adjustments to a picture (color, etc) or try to add a text annotation, it completely crashes. Won't let me print, either--crashes. This is on a Macbook Pro, with 10.7.5. Now the Preview on my iMac desktop, running 10.6.5 works fine--no problems at all. What could be the problem with the laptop Preview on OS 10.7.5? I've updated all the software that software update can find, and otherwise the laptop is running fine. What could be the problem? --PB
I've tried restarting my laptop, no effect. Don't understand "Safe Mode." When I mentioned the crashes, it's only Preview that consistently crashes, not the computer. I may just take it in to our trusty (or not so trusty) Mac fixit guys tomorrow. --PB
Here is how to reboot in safe mode:
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:
- Be sure your Mac is shut down.
- Press the power button.
- Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
- Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup in Mac OS X v10.4 through Mac OS X v10.6.8, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. During startup in Mac OS X v10.2 through v10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
To leave Safe Mode, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.
I am just trying to establish if it works in Safe Mode before I give you other suggestions.
If you don't want to do this, then its fine.
Anotether question I have though is if you can remember if you installed any AntiVirus programs recently or prior to this problem.
Please don't give up so soon, I am sure we can fix this problem.
I have been having this same issue with Preview not working anymore for a few weeks. Just haven't had time to trouble shoot yet. Did any of you find a solution? I am not sure what I may have done to make it not work anymore, can't pinpoint it. Right now they are opening in Safari, which works, but I would like previw to work properly!!
