Q: Connecting to a printer on a windows network - HP laserjet P1008

i am using a Macbookpro v 10.6.8 and want to connect to a printer that is shared on a windows network

i tried connecting manualy via SMB but i cannot find the Hp laserJet P1008 in my list

please help thankyou

    Do you see the workgroup or PC name in the list of printers?

    Download and install the package below to add the P1008 drivers to your system:

    Next follow the steps below to add the shared printer:

    No i could'nt find it, and then tried adding it manually

     

    More info:

     

    - the mac is connected to the same internet connection that the windows computers are using

    - what i've tried doing right now (based on google searches)

    system preferences>print & scan> '+' > advanced>

    type: windows

    Device: another device

    URL: smb://WORKGROUP/BILLING/HPLaserjetP1008

     

    Name: HP laserhet p1008

    Location:

    Print using: choose a driver or print model

     

    so im stuck at finding the correct driver

    From what I can gather, the drivers for this printer come from Apple Software Updates.  All you should have to do is connect the printer to the Mac via USB, add the printer's queue to the Mac's printer list, and the drivers will install.  That is the only way to get the driver for 10.6 for this printer.

    But can that affect the configurations on the windows computers? i dont want to try anything that may make the printers stop working on windows.

    is it that if i plug the printer to my mac once just for getting the driver and then it is plugged back to the windows computer i will be able to access it through the network internet connection?
