Try downloading and re-installing using the combo: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
Using the combo, which incorporates all updates since 10.8.0, is often a good way at sorting out odd OS behaviour. It's OK to apply the update over your existing OS, but I'd always recommend you have reliable backup via Time Machine or a clone in the unlikely event you have problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. I decided to run diskutility and check for errors and it found an error it can't repair. Checkdisk repair reported it found the number of files 1 less than it should of had. It recommended restarting while holding down the cmd+R keys to run diskutility to repair the error. After doing that it said it could not repair the error. It said there was an "orphande file inode xxxxxx" It said to back up as many files as possibe and reformat the drive and copy your files back. Wow!
Anyway, I have a backup from a month ago from Superduper and I'm ordering another HD. When I get the new drive I will attempt to back it up again with Superduper using the new drive ( I read on the net someone had a similar problem and Superduper somehow got around the problem). I will keep my month old backup as last resort.
