All of my photos imported in the last 2 months have disappeared from my iphotos events. Where have they gone, and is there any way to get them back? Once I import them they show up, but if I quit iphoto and reopen they are no longer there. We just recently sarted to use time machine to back up our system, though I think some of the missing photos predate the addition of time machine.

How can I stop this from happening and how can I recover month's worth of missing photos?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :

    - What version of iPhoto.

    - What version of the Operating System.

    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.

    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?

    - Are there error messages?

    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.

    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Have you checked the View ➙ Sort menu to make sure the Events are sorted as you expected and looked for the photos that way?

Or use the Search feature at the bottom and choose Date.

    iPhoto001.jpg

Then click on one of the last two months and see what you get:

    iPhoto002.jpg

If none of those find any photos continue with (assuming you're running iPhoto 9):  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:

    Fix #1

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

    iP93rebuild.PNG

Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

    Fix #2

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library

1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.

2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.

3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.

4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.

5 - Click on the Create button.

Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

    Sorry, of course.

My operating system is OS XLepard. I am using iphoto version 8.1.2. The last photos that saved were dated March 29, 2013. I would estimate that I have imported 40 more events since then. I am not sure when they disappeared, I just noticed it today, when an event I imorted last week was no longer there, but more recent ones were. I quit iphoto and restarted and the recent events I had imported yesterday have also disappeared.

I hope this helps fill in the gaps.

There are no error messages. We did not use time machine until recently. As far as I know there is nothing unusual about our setup or how we use iphoto.

I have searched everywhere for the missing month's worth of photos, but can find no trace of them. Basically, anything new I import into iphoto does not get saved.

And the results of running the two fixes mentioned above?

I'm not using version 9, will these fixes still work?

Yes but it will look like this:

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:

    Fix #1

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

Select the options identified in the screenshot

    Fix #2

Sorry for such a late reply, but it took all weekend to rebuild my iphoto library. Fix #2 did the trick. It worked and all of my missing photos have been recovered.

I have not tried uploading new photos to see if they get saved, so I am not sure if the original problem is resolved. But I am very grateful that I was able to get the photos back. Thank you so much for your help!
