Q: how to delete songs from ipad

If the song has been downloaded and you want to remove it you just need to swipe your finger from right hand side across towards the left and a red delete button should appear.

Go to Setting>General>Music and you should see just the music, along with the amount of space it is using. Swipe over the box and you are able to delete all music on the iPad.

On your ipad or iphone go to settings>music>show all music> and cut that off.... this worked for me

Let's clarify: On IOS7 the sequence is: Settings -> General -> Usage.  Then wait for the "Storage" section to populate - this can take a few seconds.

Once there you can sweep across "Music" to get the DELETE button.

BE CAREFUL!  IT WORKS IMMEDIATELY!

This didn't work for me...I've tried it about four times now.  The last time I cleared it I restarted my ipad and still...the music is there...all 9.5 gigs or so and I'm not at home so me cannot hook up to a computer.  Ipad2 latest ios7.

Are you syncing with your computer over wi-fi?  It may be that they are re-syncing. You can change your preferences in iTunes to only sync selected songs.

When I go to General/settings/ there is no MUSIC.  I have an IPAD 2 16 G and I am out of space for some new things that I want.  It seems I need to delete music.

If I delete it on my IPAD is it deleted on my computer?

So two problems here.  Swiping does not work in the MUSIC folder.

You need to go a little further. Settings>General>Usage> then wait for storage to show you your apps and how much storage they each have. Since you have so much, you probably will not need to scroll down and choose "show all apps". Then >Music. You'll see the edit button in the top right corner. Tap and you'll see a red button next to "all music". Tap and you'll get a delete button. I hope this helps.

If I understand this correctly, there are 2 options to delete songs:

1. From Settings, General,   delete all music.

2.  Go one by one, and delete each song by swiping from the right.  Would have to do this for each song individually.

I don't know the best way to point this out to Apple,  but this isn't a good solution.    I have hundreds of songs, but I certainly don't want to delete all my songs and then have to re-download lots of them.   There really should be a way to manage a long list of songs without having to go one by one to delete them individually.   I think this is an easy tasks on other platforms,  why should it be so much harder on an iPad.

You should Zero Out your personal data with the programs/apps like Safe eraser which supports both non-jailbroken and jailbroken devices OR ishredder If you want to erase data permanently from your iPhone/iPad , so that no one can recover your deleted data by using various iOS recovery programs available in the market. This is true for both Jailbroken and non-jailbroken devices.

P.S - I was also looking for something to erase my iPhone 4S (jailbroken) data permanently before selling it.

Ah okay. This is fascinating, thanks guys. I have a similar scenario.

I've just fully reset my iPad to factory settings and have been looking at that show all music option you mentioned. I've just switched on that option and can see 80 songs, supposedly from my iCloud, but yet on my device. There's the little iCloud symbol beside them in the Music app and I can download them if I wish. If I do this however, I am unable to delete these "downloaded" songs and there's no way of getting them off. Thus, this messes up my iTunes as when I now throw some music onto my device via USB, there'll always be 80 more songs than there should be.

However, if I don't select that show all music option then everything's fine, and I can just manually transfer via USB.

Now, the only way I found to get everything back to normal and "in sync" after downloading those songs initially from my iCloud (under show all music) was to do another full factory reset to remove that content and those downloaded songs.

Am I an idiot, have I missed something, does this make sense or this a bit of a flaw in the system?

The solution suggested here doesn't work for me on my iPad: after deleting from General->Usage->Music I initially see "No Data". If I start Music however the library is still there, and if I go back to Settings the Usage is back up to 25GB.

Any other approach?
