Hi there.  I just imported all my photos and vids from iPhoto to Aperture.  But none of the videos will play.  Any suggestions gratefully received!

    When you look at the "Console" window, do you see error messages like these " Failed to communicate with qtkitserver":

    1. 23/01/13 20:07:49,917 com.apple.SecurityServer[15]: Session 100017 created
    2. 23/01/13 20:07:50,330 Aperture[694]: Failed to communicate with qtkitserver: Connection invalid
    3. 23/01/13 20:07:50,331 Aperture[694]: Failed to initializeServer(), returned 5
    4. 23/01/13 20:08:01,161 Aperture[694]: Failed to communicate with qtkitserver: Connection invalid
    5. 23/01/13 20:08:01,162 Aperture[694]: Failed to initializeServer(), returned 5

    You can lauch the "Console" app from the "Utilities" folder in the Applications folder to check.

    If yes, then you are having installed something incompatible that will prevent Aperture from importing and playing videos properly. The safest fix is to reinstall Mt. Lion. You do not need to wipe the system, just reinstall on top of the current system.

    This problem usually occurs after cleaning cleaning caches with helper applications - then older and incompatible extensions will stop working. For a "quick and dirty"remedy see here: Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion

    But reinstalling would be amore solid fix.

    Regards

    How did you import? File > Import > Library?

    Do the videos play, if you simply open your iPhoto Library in Aperture?
