Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.

Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

I had this happen for no reason, everything was working fine for months and it started with no changes to my settings.

The solution was to re-enter the Outgoing Mail Server host name (mail.********.com) the user name (myname@*******.com) and the password even though the last 2 are optional.

    Then everything worked fine.

The settings were already entered and what I re-entered was exaclty the same but it still cleared the problem.

    Hope this helps.

Choose another smtp server in the list if you have one and use it instead.

No other Smtp server to use. Any way to use primary server, currently greyed out?

The only other things that I can think of to do now is to delete the mail account and start over again, or sync your settings from iTunes on your computer ... if you use an email client on your computer.

Is this a new problem? Were you able to send emails in the past?

Then I think I would lean toward deleting the account and starting over again.

Agreed. Sometimes that's all it takes, maybe a hard reset or switch off beore you enter the account details again. Windows isn't the only thing that needs a reboot to get going again, or a good kick in some cases.

I installed IOS 7.0.2 and had to resetup my imap mail because my upgrade didn't work properly and I had to do a firmware install with iTunes. I set up my mail incoming and smtp server. All my sent emails got a message saying they were rejected by the server. After clearing the settings and rentering them didn't work, I finally deleted the account and set it up again. This worked.

Are you entering the password in the outgoing mail server setting like I described? If so, and it doesn't work, it might be best to delete the account and start over again.
