They may well be on your latest iPhone backup. If you backed up to iTunes and wish to restore, plug your iPhone into iTunes, stop the automatic sync if you have it enabled, and choose "Restore from Backup".

Provided you have an iTunes backup of the phone, stored locally in the computer and done prior to the deletion, restoring the phone would restore the messages. Can check what's on the backup with utilities like DigiDNA's DiskAid: http://www.digidna.net/diskaid

iCloud and iTunes backup can let you get the text messages back if you used to sync the files to iTunes and iCloud. But if you do not do that, the deleted data on iPhone may still be there. It depends on your phone. And you can try some apps to scan your iPhone and check that whether your messages can be found or not. Hope you can recover them.

It is possible to retrieve deleted text messages on iPhone 4 but it is not easy. It depends on the make and model of the phone and how much memory it has available. If the deleted message has not been overwritten, it can possibly be retrieved.
