I put a simple folder containing a few photos in the trash.  All of a sudden almost everything seems to be in the trash--666 items.  Nothing seems to work right.  I have not emptied the trash and the 'Put Back' command is not even showing up when I try to put the items back where they belong.  Any suggestions?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 8 GB Ram--1 TB HD

Have you tried the "Put back" command on the folder itself (rather than the contents of the folder)?

That is the folder I am talking about.  If you cannot get a "put back" by control-clicking on that folder, try selecting it in Finder and then do File > Put Back from Finder's menu.

    Restarting your machine might help.

I wonder if the "simple folder containing a few photos" came from under "iPhoto Library" or "Photo Booth Library" or some such place in the Pictures folder.

Yes, I agree Time Machine is an amazing piece of software.

I wonder if the situation will repeat next time you put that same folder in the trash ...

It will be interesting to see.
