My iPad is synced with iTunes over Wi-fi.  I can see it in the top right of the screen.

However, I have just created a playlist, and clicked Done, then clicked Sync at the bottom of the screen.  Nothing has uploaded to my iPad.  and when checking iTunes, "iPad" is not shown on the top right.

My wifi signal here is strong, plus I am on Skype and online, so I know it's not the Internet.

    Hi simon_a6,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

You may find this article useful for troubleshooting the behavior you're experiencing with Wi-Fi syncing:

I go through this same thing myself all too often and this is what I do to resolve it. It always works for me, but sometimes I have to repeat the steps in order to get it to work. However YMMV.

From what you have said, i assume that you are running iTunes 11. First, launch iTunes and then go to View>Show Sidebar so that iTunes looks more familiar to you like it did in previous versions. Does your iPad appear under the devices heading in the left sidebar? If it does, you should be able to sync the iPad over WiFi, assuming that you are still set up for WiFi syncing.

If you don't see the iPad under devices, connect the iPad to the computer with the cable. Click on the summary tab in iTunes. Uncheck the WiFi sync option. Click on Apply in the lower right corner. Now sync with iTunes. Go back and select the WiFi sync option again. Click on Apply and let the change apply. Disconnect the iPad from the cable. If it still shows in the sidebar, sync again over WiFi.

Quit iTunes and give it about 30 seconds, start iTunes again and see if it still works. Frankly, I find WiFi syncing to be a bit unreliable, but that's just based on my own experience. It was much more reliable for me prior to iTunes 11.

Are you sure that you are selecting the playlist to sync to your iPad? In the Summary Tab of iTunes you can select the option to sync on checked songs and videos. That is how I sync.

    • Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes - or use the WiFi sync as you like
    • Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
    • Click on the Music Tab on the right.
    • Click on all of the albums or playlists that you want to sync. Uncheck any albums or playlists that you do not want to sync.
    • Click on the Sync Music Heading - make sure that it is selected
    • Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

    That's a different issue then.

Quit iTunes, reboot your PC, reboot the iPad and try again.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
