When I insert a DVD into my MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 the DVD Player 5.5 unexpectedly quits!
I've read up about it and apparently it's something to do with region codes and an error with the DVD Player that it doesn't prompt me to change region codes etc but I can't find a clear guide how to fix it.
Can anyone help? Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall DVD Player or something?
I'm a novice at Mac repairs so if anyone knows could they simplify the solution?
I also have this problem, My player will not even play a commercial DVD.
It will not play a newly made DVD from a new VHS-DVD recorder.
My machine is brand new- Why doesn't this work?
I want to report that the Apple Help line led me through mounting the player. I don't know why it worked when Chris Harry walked me through the set up- but I'm sure he can help you, too. There wasn't any trick. I think it is like my car which will never misbehave when I take it to get fixed at the mechanic.

It happens with any DVD. Error says NOT ALLOWED but shows the opening picture of the recorded recital. I recorded the disc on a Sony Camcord then made the isc from the little "maker" that goes with the cameras. It has always worked beore this. The DVD plays in a regular player.

perhaps you could help me. i have a macbook air and a separate dvd player (not built-in). it's worked fine up until now. i loaded House of Cards from Netlix, it began, then quit. i attempted several times to get it going - shutting down, inserting the dvd several times, and all i get is a black screen and at the top it says House of Cards, but no images. i returned the disc and got a new one, and the same thing happens: I get the not permitted warning. i don't use this much so i can't believe it would be broken now or even need cleaning. ideas?
