I just tried this too and it seems to have worked. Have had several calls with Apple support and also an appointment at the Apple store all to no avail. Apple wants to charge me GBP 200 to fix the problem. Glad I found the solution here. Apple could at least advise a total router reset could do the job FOR FREE.

This is the 6th time that my wifi connection greyed out. After updating to ios6. 1st-4th experience just took me 3-4hrd to be fixed. but unfortunately in My 5th experience really gave me a headache. but after so many hours it fixed, so i thought everything will be fine, it happened last apr14. But again unfortunately it repeated yesterday april 15 just after 6hrs when it fixed from my yesterday's dilemma i really don't know what to do. Can anyone please help me? I tried everything but it doesn't work now even my previous way. In our country theres no apple store so i cant ask for replacement and since it wasn't under warranty. Si please help me

Thats may guess too. It happen first when i update it to ios ver 6 and then until i reach 6.1.3 my wifi problem never leaves me. But in this ios version i experience twice wifi greyed out before it takes me just 3-4hrs in fixing that problem. Now for 2 consecutive day it occurs to my iphone. In that case(hardware problem) i cant ask for a replacement for it because in our country they did not allow that even im still in 1yrs warranty period. Im going to the store today hoping to make a positive solution!

So I've had much of the same problems with my iPad 4th Gen after about a month in of using it. I tried reconfiguring routers to Apples recommendations, brightness trick, reseting it several times, etc, etc. I tried everything. So, still under warranty, I took it to an Apple Genius and guess what...... replaced the iPad and voila, problems are all gone. Suggest if you have problems to get a replacement as this is most likely due to hardware issues. At least that was the case for me.

Yeah duh Mr. Hdk. I'm seeing 100 plus pages of posts with people having wifi problems ... a hardware problem ... Yeah the hardware in common is the iPad. Your response is NO help whatsoever. Go away and count your Apple stock. We are looking for a fix here, not someone who blames users for buying the product.

In my case, it was most certainly a hardware problem and Apple replaced the product without quesiton.

Got the problem this week on 3 iphones and two ipads with current ios. Download speed 600 kbit/s. Even uplaoad is faster. Last week it was fine. On the imac the speed today is 12000.

I am so disgusted with Apple right now, I can't begin to tell you!
Upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 6 at the beginning of February and IMMEDIATELY started losing my wifi signal unless I was practically sitting on top of the Brighthouse modem. Tried virtually every tip offered on the net . . .spent weeks attempting to resolve the issue myself. CONVINCED it was all software related as I treat my iPad like a baby. I even had Brighthouse switch out the modem for a newer model with a new ssid. Finally decided to make an appointment with the Apple Store Genius Bar.
After over an hour, the tech said he couldn't find anything wrong with my iPad. We reset the software in the store applying factory defaults and he did hardware diagnostics. They refused to switch mine out for even a refurbished one as I was 1 WEEK out of AppleCare . . .that's what I get for trying to solve the problem myself!
Apple's solution? Go buy an AirPort Express for $99!
Apple knows it has a problem here as many are experiencing the same dropping-wifi-signal problem since the iOS 6 upgrade (someone said she was told by an honest Apple tech that the upgrade damaged her wifi sensor), yet they won't acknowledge it or help those like myself who have been disadvantaged by the situation.
The shine is off the Apple for me . . .and I use to work for them as a trainer in the Manhattan office.

1) too much reading of 100 pages.
2) no one responds direct to a person with answers . Lets try to be direct.
3) 6.x iOS has a problem with wifi. still trying to fix on iPhone 4S
4) use 5ghz dual band router on all iPads all iPhone 5. Set router for 5ghz only and your problems will go away. Do not use dual band mode. Any good router can lock onto 5ghz band and everything will work. Just does not have the distance.
5) fighting to get 6.x iOS working on wifi 2.5 ghz with iPhone 4S. Still trying. Since I have to use both bands on the router there will be issues. Changed router to 20 kHz bandwidth if you have that setting in router firmware. Also set both SSID as the same. This is opposite of what others say. But still testing for a few more days.

Getting closer to fix.
Changed router security protocol to WPA TKIP for the 2.5ghz band. Also locked the bandwidth to 20khz width only. Seems to allow the iPhone 4S to remain connected. Some are mentioning this as a good fix. Will see.
Also hid my 2.5ghz network to maybe prevent others from trying to attach to the router and confusing the router. Likely no real help but did it anyway.
The 5ghz band remains on WPA2 security protocol. This allows faster performance of 5ghz devices. Like iPad and iPhone 5.

I've been pulling my hair out over this for months. Here's how I resolved unfortunately...
Like most people on here I have:
* reset network settings
* have no problem with other devices on same network (including iphone 4 and ipad 4, various laptops)
* am unable to get my device onto other wifi networks that are secured
* restored ipad from backup
* toggling wifi on/of
* brightness up/down and many other setting changes
* played around with wifi settings/IOS/firmware upgrades/downgrades on my various wireless devices cisco/linksys/tp link/netgear, nothing helped (I'm a cisco network engineer of 13 years experience, I've tried a lot and on packet debug with my cisco devices it seems the ipad doesn't even attempt to connect to wifi network before coming back with "incorrect password", I'd suggest everyone that's having same issue as me the ipad isn't even communicating to your wifi network device and is a likely software bug that can't be cleared... hardware maybe but I don't think so).
None of these worked for me.
After telling Applie Genius bar about my woes and what I've tried, they thought it must be a hardware fault (I still think it's software) they replaced my iPad 3 wifi/cellular with a new one despite being out of warranty by 15 days. Upon reaching home to the same network on new iPad 3 everything worked fine. I then restored my backup from the ipad that didn't work onto the new ipad, and wifi works without a hitch so far.
For people that are still affected, I was wondering if you have formatted your device and NOT restored and treated it as a new device, is it still unable to join wifi? Also to try if by chance you have a friend that has same model, restore your backup onto their ipad and see if that works, and restore their backup onto yours to see what happens.

Like Adam, I have tried everything on the list, several times. My iPhone 5 just suddenly stopped picking up the home WiFi - everything else works fine - 2 ipads, an Apple Macbook Pro Retina, friend's iPads etc. I think it did get a software update recently so I just cannot imagine it is either the phone itself or the router. Very, very frustrating it renders the phone useless I cannot upload the photos to my photo stream etc.
