You have to backup and then restore to the iPod to the new computer. See:

This procedure did not work on my iPod Classic. I've the latest iTunes program, using windows 8. I've deauthorised all computer and then authorised my new computer. I've reverted the iPod software and re synchronied. But my computer will not recognise my iPod as a paired device. All I can do is synchronise manually each time I connect.

Did you restore the iPod on this computer?
What happens when you try to sync automatically?
One does not pair an iPod with a computer.

Yes restored iPod, went through welcome screens, etc. I can sync automatically. However, if I view preferences/devices, it says this computer is not paired with any remotes. It also means I cannot backup my device through iTunes. Its not essential to resolve this issue as I only store music on my iPod. Its just annoying because it worked fine on windows XP.

You said: " it says this computer is not paired with any remotes." Have you pair the iPod with any remotes? This has nothing to do with normal operation of the iPod like backing up or syncing.
From iTunes Help
Use the Remote app to control your iTunes library
If you have an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad, you can use the Remote app to control your iTunes library from a distance. The Remote app is available as a free download from theApp Store.
Before you can use Remote, you need to pair it with the iTunes library (or libraries) you want to control. Your device and your computer must be on the same wireless network.
If you have Remote 2.0 (or later) and Home Sharing is turned on, you can set Remote to pair automatically with any of the iTunes libraries on your Home Sharing network. You can also pair Remote directly with iTunes libraries that aren’t in your Home Sharing network.
For more information, see the Remote Support website.
