HT5559 When I enter the first command into the terminal, I can no longer type into it. Please help, thanks!

Basically as the title says, when I enter the first command to back- track Java to version 6, before I enter my password to activate it, I can no longer type into

the terminal. I've tried both copy- pasteing the command and typeing it in manually. Please help, thank you!

MacBook, iOS 6.1.4
