Your model and OS version only supports Win 7 in BootCamp, however if you install Win 7 Pro, you can run XP software.
You also can run XP (or any version) in VirtualBox for free, but there is a performance penalty if intend to 3D game or very heavy CPU use.

Okay I have upgraded my service pack to SP 3. Installed the broadcom drivers it now pops up as Network Controller in Device Manager but says that the drivers are not installed. I cannot install Windows 8 without internet. Anyone know how to get this working?

And only Apple has the drivers and they don't make it for XP, only for Win 7 on Snow Leopard.
If you want to push this further, search online for another site like MacRumors or OSX Hints, perhaps someone has made drivers for XP for Snow Leopard, but your taking your chances and more headaches.
Still comes the problem of drivers for Win 8 on Snow Leopard, I think only 10.7/10.8 has Apple drivers for Win 8
Oh well, enjoy yourself. I tried, the horse won't drink.
