Running iTunes 10.7(21) on a late 2009 27" iMac with 10.7.4. For the last several days, downloading app updataes or new apps has been incredibly slow. 15MB files take upwords of 10 minutes to download. I have run speed tests on my connection and I'm seeing 20Mb/s downloads and 4Mb/s uploads. I haven't had any problems with slowness anywhere else. Only when downloading apps from the iTunes store. When I attempt to download them directly from my new iPhone 5 I have the same problem, but everyhting else downloads super speedy.
I am having a similar issue. I can download from any site except the iTunes store at very fast speeds up to 20Mbps. I keep my iTunes media external from my iMac 27" in a GoFlex external drive. Up until maybe two months ago, my speeds were excellent. Then suddenly it takes me hours to download even a TV show from iTunes. All other data I transfer to the external drive goes quickly. The slow downloads are only from iTunes. The end result is that I'm going to other outlets to get content and then converting it for use on my Apple TVs. Apple Support is clueless on this, and they are losing big business by not solving it.
I have a 50x5 Mbit cable business class modem, from Time Warner, in my house (doing that give me priority bandwidth over other residences).... Also as a business class there's no data caps or port blockings. The most I EVER get from the iTunes Store is 4-5MBytes/sec (about 35 Mbits)... Usually I get 1-2 MBytes/sec to iTunes or any device
My guesses are
1) Apple just doesn't have the bandwidth during certain times
2) I notice they throttle accounts. If I download an entire hd season, I start out fast, then it slows after a few hrs... Im guessing apple has a max data cap per day then slows you down.
3) I also don't think Apple is capable of handling all the new 35-50Mbit connections that are now readily available from the big cable companies.
