May 19, 2013 6:54 AM in response to Cymru24by Rudegar,as stated unless you need to play games or use really really hardware demanding programs such a high res video edit / 3d modeling or the likes then running
windows in a virtual machine is much easier and time consuming
other then that then maybe you don't have enough free storage for the bootcamp parition or you are trying to use 32bit windows which bootcamp can't find drivers for or the likes

May 19, 2013 2:19 PM in response to Rudegarby Cymru24,I am about to run specialized GIS software that may or may not need the full machine resources. I am an attorney who uses QuickBooks for my accounting. The Mac version does not do as much as the Windows version. This is from both Apple and Quick Books professionals. I am using Parallels Desktop version 8 at this time. It does not support QuickBooks Windows version per Parallels. Any other questions? I am a highly competent PC user who is new to Macs. I am entitled to my own configuration choices. That said, I know when I need help which is now.
As to the free space issue I have 665.18 GB free space out of 749.3 GB on the drive. I am not trying to run the 32 bit version. I know that it requires the 64 bit version. Besides, it does not get that far in the process. As I said Boot Camp asssitant terminates unexpectedly as soon as you hit the continue button after setting the partition size. Therefore I conclude that it does not have a chance to see which version of Windows that I am using. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version in the virtual engine (to use Parallels speak), but again Boot Camp would not see that since it is not running. It can't run at the momenet because Apple just installed a new hard drive and I have just restored the data from TIme Machine and Parallels needs reactivated, which I have not done yet deliberatley. With all of this addtiional information do you have any further suggestions? Thanks for your time and interest my issue.

May 19, 2013 2:30 PM in response to Cymru24by Csound1,Quickbooks runs perfectly in VirtualBox and VMWare Fusion 5, I am surprised that it doesn't in Parallels but I'll take your word on it.
I have several Mac clients (Attorneys like you) running Quickbooks (current version) in Windows 7 in Fusion QB runs as fast as it does on a comparable Windows machine. All functions work fine.
Don't waste your time with Boot Camp.

May 22, 2013 4:31 AM in response to Csound1by Cymru24,It was the Parallels engineer who told me, plus the Quickbooks support person. I have not tried it because you assume that they each know their product. FYI- I went to the GENIUS BAR FOR HELP. They set up the partitiion using Disk Utilitiy. The Apple Tech said that it was a little like changing the oil and filter whie driving the car, but it worked. I am now running Parallels using the BOOT CAMP copy of Windows as the base. This is a standard Parallels mode. I am planning on running the normal Windows programs in the Parallels virtual engine. tThis whole affair is to be able to run ArcView GIS Desktop at full power when I install it. Itis supposed to be able to run in Parallels. The catch is it's $1500 per copy. I am starting a new GIS BASED management structure for an existing business in July. It is absolutely critical that the software works flawlessly on the MAC. Hence I want to keep the BOOT CAMP option available.

Then use a VM in which it does work, Fusion.
