Thanks for posting your findings.   This solved it for me as well.  I was tearing my hair out trying to solve this.  My next option was to scrap my install and start from scratch!

    Thanks again.

Well I'll just be doggoned. The problem started suddenly for me - nothing fixed it. Pretty much every post on the subject referred to user error, and how we were all doing it wrong. Finally I read Matthew's post about the Lexar software, which I had installed along with a Lexar thumb drive some time ago. Solved my problem immediately.

THANK YOU!! I have no idea how you found that, though I'm glad you did.

The recent updates i would say the last 2-3 minor updates seem to have made lion unstable alot of my programs that used to work no longer work after the updates and it also caused my account to get corrupted.

Thank you for posting your finding as it solved my "no mountable file systems" errors also.  I used your resolution as I too had a Lexar thumb drive.  Like you discovered as soon as I deleted the .kext file I was able to mount and load a couple of Garmin GPS updates and new maps.  I had contacted Garmin via emails and their suggestions was to download the files again as they might be corrupted and /or contact Apple, which I didn't do as I wasn't looking forward to that potential circular problem.....Garmin says it's Apple, Apple says it Garmin

Thank you, thank you, I never would have found that.  I don't use the Lexar Secure II any longer as it wasn't working well with Lion.....so much for encrypted thumb drives.

Okay. I have a small, encrypted disk image I created with Disk Utility that worked just fine until today. I had it saved on an SD chip and wanted to modify the files. I unlocked the chip and it refused to mount properly. The file was no longer visible, but when I locked it again, the file was there but I got the "No Mountable File System" error. I see the size is unchanged, but it refuses to open. Other disk images mount fine, and I don't have the Lexar file to remove.

Disk Utility can't do anything to the file, and I downloaded Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery to try to fix it, but when I launch it, it asks for my admin password because it wants to change things. I declined the offer, but would like to know if it's possible to recover my files. I am currently running 10.8.3.

    Thanks.

How did you know this was your issue? I am having the same issue of "no mountable file systems"? Also, I don't have the LexarFilterScheme.kext file that is mentioned in the resolution

How did you track down the issue being LexarFilter...? I am having the same issue of "no mountable file systems"

  • 27. Re: "No Mountable File Systems"
    Raamyah Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Nothing I did worked, so I had to get the files off through a rescue program and reformatted the disk. Turns out the sd chip was damaged somehow, so the files would have been unrecoverable anyway.

Unfortunately, it was just trial end error removing extensions and stuff one at a time and seeing what made the error go away.

    Hello Matthew,

You just saved my day! I too have a Lexar secure Jump Drive and got this error message of no mountable file system when trying to install software from Garmin. And not only that, my Garmin GPS would not mount on my Mac. After a short Google search I found your thread and when I removed the /System/Library/Extensions/LexarFilterScheme.kext everything went back to normal.

    THANK YOU!

    Best regards from Iceland.

    Ingolfur
