Restart while holding down the command and R keys (both together).
On the screen that comes up, select Disk Utility, and continue. When DU opens, select your hard drive on the left, click the First Aid tab, then click on Repair Drive.
After that is done, restart the computer.

Unfortunately I tried that. When I tried to restart the computer I got the error: Building boots caches on boot helper partition failed. So i manually restarted it and am at the same place..stuck at Apple screen logo
