Might be a plugin or extension...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, select the Extensions tab.
If there are any extensions installed, turn that off, quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Hi - thanks yes this seems to have done the trick. I deselected plug ins and rebooted and the site worked normally. I then rectivated them without rebooting Safari as I do need to view video. Rather a roundabout
way to make full use of the browser though.
